MILLCREEK, Utah (ABC4) — The largest outdoor climbing wall in Utah — located on the side of Millcreek City Hall — was scaled 10,000 times during its inaugural season, according to city officials.
In early 2022, construction began on a new city hall in Millcreek. However, this government administration building would not look like a traditional city hall.

Now deemed Millcreek Common, the building has the largest outdoor climbing wall in Utah as well as an outdoor roller skating rink that will convert to ice skating during the winter, according to the website.
The climbing wall is 65 feet high and was built as a tribute to Millcreek’s climbing culture using funds from the Utah Outdoor Recreation grant. The wall opened to the public for the first time in March and will close for the winter season on Nov. 15. Ice skating will open at the city hall on the same day.
City officials say the public reaction to the climbing wall has been overwhelmingly positive, with 10,000 people having already paid to scale the wall.
“The positive response has been overwhelming,” City Councilmember Silvia Catten said. “People love it. I’ve climbed it, my daughters have climbed it, it’s a huge hit!”
The climbing wall’s inaugural season also coincided with the Summer Olympics, playing a role in the celebration of Millcreek resident Sam Watson after he retained his title of the world’s fastest climber.
According to the press release, the mayor and city council gave Watson a lifetime pass to the new outdoor climbing wall after he broke his own world record in the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The climbing wall packed a punch this inaugural season, but the season has not wrapped up yet. The wall is open seven days a week to climbers of all ages. Admission is $7 and climbing shoe rentals are available for $5 with season passes available for $150 – $250.
