AVON, CT — Town officials Friday have canceled a planned celebration tonight

AVON, CT — Town officials Friday have canceled a planned celebration tonight (Friday, June 9) of the new play area at the Sycamore Hills Recreation Area.

The weather forecast calls for rain showers, which proved to be too daunting to continue the event.

The event was to take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

As part of a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the town was inviting families to bring a picnic and enjoy the company of other families, play games and enjoy music at the site.

The new play area was funded by a federal Urban Act grant and administered by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

There was no announcement as to whether the event will be rescheduled.
