A playground in Nottinghamshire will be redeveloped after a £100,000 grant was secured.

The work at Valley Road Recreation Ground in Carlton will see some of the existing equipment be refurbished and new features, including monkey bars, swings and a 30m (98.43ft) zip line installed.

The funding has come from FCC Communities Foundation, a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, conservation and heritage projects.

Gedling Borough Council, which leases the park from Nottinghamshire County Council, said work to upgrade the site would start in the new year.

The bid for funding was made in partnership with the authority and the Friends of Valley Road group.

Viv McCrossen, portfolio holder for climate change and natural habitat, said: "The plans for the new facilities look fantastic and I’m sure the new play area will be very much welcomed by the local community."

Marie Spinks, chairman of the Friends of Valley Road group, said the group had "worked really hard to get this funding" since it was founded in May 2022.

"We are so excited and from seeing all the children who came along to the summer fair we know how much difference it will make," she said.
