Bismarck School District shared news this week about multiple donations they recently received that will help them purchase playground equipment designed for kids with disabilities and/or special needs.

School officials expressed “a heartfelt THANK YOU” to Reynolds Consumer Products, Radius Aerospace, United Steel Workers Local 7972, and Entergy for their “incredibly generous” donations, which will be used to purchase Inclusive Playground Equipment for students on campus with disabilities.

“Many of our students face challenges using the current playground due to mobility restrictions or sensory sensitivities. But thanks to these donations, ALL Bismarck students will soon have playground equipment they can enjoy together, regardless of ability!” school officials stated.

“This new inclusive playground will not only provide fun for everyone but will also foster new friendships and a sense of belonging and acceptance between students with and without disabilities,” officials stated. “Thank you for helping us create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all of our students!”

According to a study done on the subject and shared by the National Library of Medicine, “In order for all children, regardless of gender, age and ability, to access and engage in play on community playgrounds, they must be designed with inclusion in mind.

“This means that in addition to physical accessibility, playgrounds should include play equipment that is intentionally selected and positioned to provide a variety of play opportunities for children with different play preferences and abilities.”
